Ferris Wheel in Chernobyl UkraineWhilst our Chernobyl group tours certainly build camaraderie between people, we understand that many people enjoy their own space and wander around at a comfortable space seeing specific sights they want to see. So for those with a specialist interest in nuclear power and the Chernobyl disaster, we can arrange private tours from 1 to 5 days long with our private guide focusing on specific areas of your interest. We can also arrange permits to enter inside one of the Chernobyl reactors, the layout of which is identical to that of the infamous reactor 4 where the original meltdown occurred.

From the first email to the goodbye at the end of the tour, you will receive a premium service from our trained team. You will be picked up from your hotel between 07:30 – 08:00 and begin the drive to Chernobyl, on the way you’ll stop for breakfast and after around 2 hours you’ll hit the first checkpoint. Once entry clearance has taken place you’ll begin your extensive tour of the zone.

  • There are no hidden charges or fees, the quote you are given is the price you pay.
  • Our tours are completely safe and we only follow proven safe routes through the zone. We do not take you to areas that present a risk to your health. During each day of your tour, you will be required to undergo radiation control 3 times.
  • We take you to the best locations and as private tours are generally small, we generally rarely see other groups and take you to the more rare places larger groups don’t have time or access to.

When you join Soviet Wastelands on a private expedition of the Chernobyl exclusion zone, we promise to provide you with one of the most in-depth tours available. Whether you’re on a 1-day excursion or a 5-day expedition, we guarantee to bring you up close and personal with some of the most infamous of the zone from reactor 4 and the Duga radar to abandoned kindergartens and the ins and outs of the ghost city of Pripyat. • Visiting one of the self settlers who still live in the zone
  • Chance to share a beer or a shot of Ukrainian vodka with a Chernobyl liquidator
  • Seeing the sunrise over the Duga radar or the sunset over the ghost city of Pripyat

A Daily Brief of a Private Chernobyl Exclusion Zone tour:

Between 07:00 – 08:00, you’ll be greeted at your accommodation in Kyiv by our experienced Chernobyl guide. Most of our guides have been working in the zone for almost a decade, some were even born in what is now the exclusion zone. in Kiev and jump on board one of our comfortable vehicles. The drive to the zone takes around 2 hours including breakfast and coffee stop en route. We often have a Chernobyl documentary available to show you on the way.

Upon reaching the first checkpoint we will meet with the police forces guarding the zone and have our permits checked, this shouldn’t take too long and once cleared you’ll be issued with a personal dosimeter to measure radiation, after that, you’ll step foot into the zone. We will drive to Chernobyl town and on the way, your guide will begin to provide an in-depth and easy to follow explanation of the disaster, the consequences, and the zone today. If you have any questions your guide will be on hand to answer them all.

As we spend our day exploring the highlights and the different corners of the zone, we will stop for lunch in the worker’s canteen meaning you will get to enjoy a Soviet-style, Ukrainian lunch next to real liquidators of the Chernobyl power plant.

As the sun sets on the ghost cities, abandoned villages and packs of wildlife that now call the exclusion zone home, we either bid farewell and head back to Kyiv or for those that are staying overnight inside Chernobyl, we will stop for supplies from a local store and head to our Soviet hotel where you can enjoy some local beers or vodka outside and enjoy the ghostly silence of the zone.
